ADE festival report: the Djoon experience at Little Buddha
24 October 2010ADE is a real marathon of conferences and party’s. My fourth night in a row took me once again to Little Buddha for a taste of the Parisian nightlife. The famous Djoon nightclub was brought over by Dutch House label Afrazoo. It would turn out to be a perfect end to four days of musical bliss.
For every deep house lover the line up for the night was extremely promising. Djoon resident Afshin, Dutch DJ and Afrazoo owner Leroy Styles, Rocco, Yass, Culoe de Song and Manoo.
Where I thought it would a traditional line up, as in everybody gets an hour, it turned out to be a continuous rotation between the DJ’s. Afshin was the first up and he made us want go to Paris every weekend to hear him play. Next up was Manoo, and this unbelievably modest but even more talented French man, took it even further with his afro deep house set. It was as if Boddhi Satva left his CD’s in from the night before. The pace and intensity was again going strong.
There are a couple of frontrunners in Afro House: the legendary Osunlade, Black Coffee, who both are truly missed during ADE, Manoo, Boddhi Satva and newcomer Culoe de Song. To see all these guys perform during ADE is a truly special.
After a couple of rounds they decided to just make it a 2,5 hour back to back set. Culoe de Song, Manoo, Afshin, Yazz and Rocco all took turns, making the crowd go ecstatic. It’s great to see the energy these guys have together. Coming from different places, not seeing each other that often, but still find themselves in house music.
Although Black Coffee wasn’t in Amsterdam; his presence was there almost every night. His tracks stand for the sound that keeps poring out of Africa. Tracks like ‘Superman’ and ‘Turn me on’ represent the deeply moving sound that comes from the continent. Rocco wore a t-shirt that said it all: Africa is the future. And guys like Culoe, Manoo, Boddhi and Black Coffee will continue to share with the world their vision and passion for music.
This evening was a perfect closure for a great musical journey during ADE. I think everyone who has experienced ADE this week, will say it is a tiring but a wonderful experience. ADE has shown once again that it is more than on its way to become an institution. And with all the great facilities and infrastructure in Amsterdam it will be just that for a long, long, long time.
Thank you ADE. I am truly grateful and deeply inspired for and by the love of house.
