ADE festival report: Vega Records Get Together at Little Buddha
23 October 2010During ADE 2010 betribes.com will write reports of the ADE festival, yesterday Robin visited Little Buddha at the Vega Records Get Together event.
We’re now a couple of hours after one of the best parties I have ever had the privilege to visit and it is still hard to describe the vibe and uniqueness of last night. ADE hosts hundreds of artists and events featuring a lot of the great minds in the international house scene. But only a couple of events can really stick out. Related with legend Louie Vega and Boddhi Satva is one of them.
At the moment I arrived at Little Buddha you could see where the term ‘ADE Madness’ comes from. The sidewalk was packed with people and the staff had a hard time keeping up. But once inside it was clear that the madness made its way in as well. This beautiful venue was absolutely packed and the crowd was buzzing for what was to come.
Anane Vega was playing a high paced house set, which got the entire place moving. Louie Vega is a very, very big name in the house scene, one half of the famous duo Masters at Work, this guy has worked with some of the greatest artists on the planet. So it’s no wonder that such a big crowd was drawn to Little Buddha. Knowing the difference in style between him and Boddhi Satva, I was curious to see if the place would remain as packed.
The great thing about ADE is that a lot of artists take some time to go and see their colleagues perform. Names like Manoo, Spen, and Yazz, where all waiting for Little Louie Vega to step up and do his thing. At two o’clock it was time and the well-known black hat and golden chains stepped behind the decks to show everybody his class.
Years and years of experience just flow out of the guy as he makes it seem effortless. His set took the jumping crowd on a wild ride through tech house, 90’s break beats, old school bass slammers and the more subtle tones of minimal and deep house. To be this versatile as a DJ and still have the crowd at your fingertips is simply amazing.
During his set there was a little intermezzo with Anane and Louie performing some tracks of her new album to promote it. I get the point of wanting to do this for such an international crowd, but the problem I have with live performances during DJ sets is that it slows the pace down. But the combination between Mr & Ms Vega works great.
Finally at half past three it was time for the man who has the gift to make truly beautiful house music and one of the most gentle and humble artists I’ve ever met. To see this guy perform is like watching a beautiful movie or a play. Everything falls into place as he takes the crowd with him in his trance. Incense burning, African necklaces around his neck and some of the greatest records ever made in his bag, this man takes you by the hand and never lets go.
His set reached climax after climax, but everything built up to the track ‘Mercyless’ by Fred Everything in the Atjazz remix. The small crowd that was left took it eagerly and danced in tune to the moves Boddhi was making behind the decks.
The tracks after that were delicious deserts to a perfect meal. Fifteen minutes after closing time he emotionally took the mic and thanked the audience for their presence and support of quality music. And Little Buddha thanked him warmly for a night never to forget.
