ADE festival report: Resident Advisor night at Trouw
23 October 2010During ADE 2010 betribes.com will write reports of the ADE festival, yesterday Dammie visited Trouw at the Resident Advisor night.
Designed by the team behind the now-defunct Club 11, Trouw has become one of Amsterdam's most popular nightspots, so it only seems fitting that it should host some of ADE's finest lineups. The Resident Advisor night took place on Friday, October 22nd, and promised to be something of a double-header: The night began with a concert by Hercules & Love Affair, with a regular club party commencing after midnight. Steve Bug, Soul Clap, Hunee and Melon will all man the decks, along with Rekids boss Radio Slave. A live performance also came courtesy of modern disco pro Tensnake.
As far as Amsterdam clubs go, they don't come much cooler than Trouw. Set in the former printing area of a newspaper, the long room of the club has crystal clear and stripped back but stylish design. In a short space of time, it has become of the envy of clubs in Holland. The club underwent minimal renovation that enhanced the raw factory theme with a touch of urban stencilling, street-style patterns, high-tech club lighting, and an impressive sound system. A maze of stairs and old shop rooms, now used as coat checks and smoking area, leads the hip guests to the main dance chamber, where the best DJs in town keep them moving to the beats. An upstairs area provides a bird’s-eye view of the DJs on stage as they rile up the energetic crowd dancing amid the fog and vibrant laser lighting.
Unfortunately Tensnake got cancelled, but Soul Clap's longer disco / old house DJ set made up for that. Trouw was sold out around 1 am. It took a while before the party really kicked in, mostly because of the more deeper minimal sound that ruled the dancefloor. When Steve Bug started playing his music at the end of the night, all the hands went up in the air. The song that really did it for me was the last record Soul Clap played - Le Chic - Good Times!
Conclusion
Trouw continues the policy of up-front, cutting edge, A-list electronic music. The Resident Advisor night was filled with energetic, adventurous and spiritual underground house and disco music. Trouw clearly caters to stylish electronic fans who really appreciate the music and the rugged vibe, without being overly pretentious. Instead, a sociable and fun-loving atmosphere prevails that makes the club a great choice for a cool techno experience not found anywhere else in the city.
