ADE festival report: Phat Elephant and Finetunes present at Hotel Arena

22 October 2010

During ADE 2010 betribes.com will write reports of the ADE festival, yesterday Robin visited Hotel Arena.

Deep House is a genre within house music that is under appreciated by the masses, but so much more loved by a small crowd of househeads. Phat Elephant’s showcase in Hotel Arena was a wonderful example of the love for the Deep.

The contrast between Wednesday night and last night was evident. From blazing snares and drums, to deep pumping bass lines and subtle vocals. The venue was perfect for a journey into the minds of DJ Yellow and the ridiculously talented Atjazz. But unfortunately the dark and moody former church remained to empty in order for it to become all it could be.
Session Victims were playing a nice and steady set, but it wasn’t long before DJ Yellow took over. In front of handful of people he pushed the tempo up a bit and treated us to a set that turned out to be the perfect introduction for Atjazz.

The buzz for his performance has been simmering around online for a couple of weeks. And when a couple of big name DJ’s like Karizma and Boddhi Satva showed up to enjoy and support Atjazz’s set, you know that its special to see this guy perform.

In the following hour Atjazz took the small crowd on a journey deep into the burrows of house. With great intensity and dedication he treated ADE with a visit that unfortunately not many people took the chance to enjoy. Let’s hope by 2011 the Deep House virus has spread out a bit more.
