ADE festival report: SCI+TEC presents Dubfire at Air
22 October 2010During ADE 2010 betribes.com will write reports of the ADE festival, yesterday Dammie visited Air at the SCI+TEC presents Dubfire event.
So where do you go when there are over 700 artists and 41 clubs to choose from. Simple, just look for the diversity in the line-up so for the Thursday and you will end up at Air.
Air is large (max capacity 1300) but intimate, with several areas in a flexible layout. On the former IT location, Air has been designed from the ground up and the club supports a state of the art sound and lighting systems and novelties like electronic lockers and a fully automated bar system. Air’s interior was conceptualized by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders.
SCI+TEC Digital Audio is set to host its first ever Amsterdam Dance Event showcase with an amazing line-up featuring the new king of darkness, Deep Dish’s Dubfire. What’s more, pioneering UK electronic outfit Global Communication, aka Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard, used the event to reunite for the first time since their last collaboration almost 15 years ago. The pair chose SCI+TEC’s ADE event to be their launch pad for the second chapter of Global Communication after Dubfire expressed to the duo that he was a huge fan of their work. And to top it all off they invited a very special guest in the form of Detroit legend Carl Craig.
Dubfire's style is noticeably different than Deep Dish's, consisting of dark house and techno instead of progressive house.
Global Communication played an ambient set in Air’s mainroom before taking over the second room for an all-night DJ set with the kind of eclectic, fully warped electronic music that only Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard can provide.
And what to say about Carl Craig. Part of what makes Craig's style so unique and separates him from much of the normal "Detroit Techno" sound, including current works, are his remixes of world beat and jazz songs.
Conclusion
If you weren’t here you really missed out on a hell of a party. The club is amazing serving you with the latest of technological gadgets. It’s like a breath of fresh Air. The crowd was cool, trendy and got the music. And seeing Global Communication live on stage after 15 year is like, whoow. 76:14 all over again. Mix this with the rare dark sound of the new king of darkness, Deep Dish’s Dubfire. Topping it al of with the superb beats by the king of Detroit and you have a party that will keep the masses talking for quite some time.
