Melkweg and its ADE marathon

28 July 2010

Sure, if there’s a festival in town, why not try to make something out of every day. That seems to be the thought the Melkweg had when they were busy making their plans for the coming ADE. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and last but not least Sunday all have their own and respectable line ups. You’d almost forget that there’s more to do in town.

So let’s start with the beginning. The Melkweg hosts the official openings concert and the official openings party. At 21:00 it starts with the concert from Goldfish – for everybody that misses this one there’s another on Friday. After the concert the Melkweg will transform into a genuine techno club for D25. What? Detroit techno is celebrating its 25th anniversary. And the line-up says enough: Derrick May, Moodymann, Kevin Saunderson, Carl Craig, Kyle Hall and others.

The Thursday kicks off with a show from Flying Lotus. Earlier this year he completely filled the big room in Paradiso, so be sure to get your tickets on time. His live act can surely compete with his album. It’s maybe even better: he’s lip-syncing – or maybe singing with – all his vocals. After FlyLo it’s Superrauw that is going to turn the Melkweg upside down. Think Boys Noize, Aeroplane, Villa and Joakim.

On Friday it’s Dave Clarke’s turn. He’s a usual suspect, both of the Melkweg as of ADE. On his own night there’s room for the likes of Robert Hood, Green Velvet, Abe Duque and Estroe.

Saturday kicks off with Midnight Juggernauts in the Sugar Factory, right across the street. Thirty minutes later the Shapshifter show starts in the Oude Zaal of the Melkweg. At the same time, 21:30 that is, the Border Community show starts of in the Max. Of course with James Holden, but also with Kate Wax and Luke Abbott. Saturday will be busy in the Melkweg, because there’s also Sonic Warfare, with Pangaea, Jackmaster, and Ramadanman.

The marathon ends on Sunday with Sander Kleinenberg’s night. He presents you 5k and Sasha, with of course Sasha, but also Dirty Flavor, Muzikjunki, Pleasurekraft, Sander himself and Redondo.

Seeing this line up it would be pretty strange if you haven’t visited Melkweg after your ADE trip. The line-up ranges from disco to electro to UK Funky to Detroit techno to pop to techno etcetera. Enough to find for everyone. The Melkweg sells passe-partouts for all the shows at 65 euro’s.
