Going Dutch: Dutch producers abroad
27 July 2010The Dutch have always had a certain kind of spirit for trade. Now that products don’t have to be distributed via a specific country, our spirit seems to have told us to distribute ourselves. The Dutch go abroad. Are going abroad. Were going abroad. Keep in mind that The Netherlands are small, so we often have to seek our luck elsewhere.
Well, you should get the deal. It’s about Dutch artists, dj’s, producers who went abroad. And there’s a whole bunch of them. The Netherlands are very small, and after a bit of success it probably won’t take long before you’ve seen all of the interesting places to play. And then? Then you rush to the nearest airport to seek your luck abroad. In the states, for instance. In this serie we will highlight some dutch pride abroud.
Let’s talk about dubstep producer Martyn, who took a plane, leaving Eindhoven to try his luck in the states. His luck in love, actually. He moved to Washington, where his wife wanted to live after trying to settle down in Holland for a while. Things didn't work out for her, so he and she moved to DC, and with success. He started his own label 3024 – a postal code from Rotterdam, where he lived for a few years - and visits Europe’s clubs so regularly that you almost start wondering if it wasn’t a better idea to stay on this side of the pond.
