In the spotlight: Air on air

20 July 2010

The club scene in Amsterdam seems pretty solid. Clubs have been up and running for years and they rarely dissolve into oblivion. But the notorious iT did. And after several years of vacancy, on the very same spot a new club has opened its doors to a new and younger crowd. A crowd that probably only has heard about the former club through stories about the good old days, by people who could have been their parents.

So, it’s time to reveal the club’s name: Air. Yup, like the thing you breathe. And of course it's also a new festival location. Air is situated in the Amstelstraat, near Rembrandtplein (Rembrandtsquare) so it shouldn’t be a problem to get there by public transport. Air is one of the more futuristic clubs of Amsterdam: your cash is useless. Air operates personalized pre-paid cards. It certainly helps to tackle the waiting lines.

The sound is provided by a good-looking Void soundsystem, but the most important bit is that not only its design is great, it offers a state-of-the-art sound quality – top priority for serious clubbing. The club offers two rooms. The main room is equipped with huge stairs, while the basement-like side room is all blacked-out and particularely suited for dirty and deep partying. All the more reason to check out Air and its innovative environment.
